The March 19-22 Social Weather Stations survey showing a rise in the number of Filipinos experiencing hunger tells a lot about the efforts of the Aquino administration in trying to stay true to its slogan, “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap.”
According to the survey, 19.2 percent of Filipinos, or 3.9 million families, experienced hunger in the past three months, a rise from the 18.3 percent figure in December. The rising number of hungry Filipinos is not just alarming. It also reflects much on whether or not the Aquino administration is indeed making headway in its fight against corruption.
If we are to accept the logic behind the slogan, then we are quite certain that corruption is not just here to stay. With Filipinos getting hungrier day by day, it has worsened under the presidency of Mr. Aquino.
