It is sad that columnist Nestor Torre was too quick in judging new GMA 7 child sensation Ryzza Mae Dizon as lacking ad-libbing skills to serve as host of a talk show featuring adult celebrities (Entertainment, 4/14/13).
Ryzza gained popularity because of her cute, impish looks and her lovable style of dancing the “cha-cha” in the “Eat Bulaga” noontime program. It is not even fair to compare her to Niño Muhlach and Aiza Seguerra during their time because the talent they displayed differed.
As a 7-year-old, Ryzza is a natural comic and people love her antics, ad-libs and all. Her show focuses on her ability to carry on a conversation with an adult guest in her own childish, innocent and inquisitive way. She is just a child out to learn something about her guests, personal and otherwise, which in turn she also gets to share with the viewers. The guest’s role is to entertain the audience as well with her/his own storytelling and ad-libs.
The episodes shown so far did not fail to amuse me and, judging from its members’ facial reactions and responses, the TV audience as well. I believe Ryzza and the show have succeeded in giving the viewers a different kind of entertainment, and I feel sorry for Torre’s failure to appreciate it.
