Perverse behavior against animals shames Filipinos
I HAVE been alerted to a sordidly shameful trade of videos gratuitously displaying women violently abusing animals by stamping on them with their stiletto heels. (“NBI goes after animal torturers,” Inquirer, 5/1/11)
This trade is being allowed to flourish in La Union and nothing appears to be done about it by the authorities despite countless protests. Would the Inquirer please use its powers of persuasion on those in government and in the legislature for a law to be passed banning these videos from being made, distributed online and sold to the public in the Philippines.
A colleague filled me with shame when he laughed in my face saying “So much for Filipino women!” Apart from the personal anguish there is the harm to tourism if word gets out that my country deals in this kind of cruel, perverse behavior for grubby financial gain.
