‘Deep thoughts and feelings’ from a ‘son’

/ 09:14 PM May 07, 2013

My son-in-law Kenneth C. May of Florida, USA, husband of our youngest daughter Clarissa, must have read on the Internet my letter titled “Wanted: good Samaritans for ailing child” (Letters, Inquirer , 3/14/13) because he sent me a greeting card with the following words personally written by him, and I quote: “Dad, the way you help others, thinking of their need and making sure they are taken care of, shows you are a man of great character.”

I could hardly believe that Ken, as he is fondly called by his peers, contemporaries and coteachers in the Palm Beach State College where he is handling mathematics, is reading my letters on the Internet. Ken came over for the 2007 grand reunion of the Peteza clan, and he was handed two copies of the Inquirer’s Sept. 4, 2007 issue (which featured my humble self) that he requested through overseas call to be bought for him, so he can bring them to Florida for his personal library.

In an overseas call, Clarisse said Ken wanted to teach modern mathematics in a college or university in our country, but she advised him that his monthly salary may not be same in the Philippines.

Clarisse arrived last April 12 for the wedding of our granddaughter Helen Grace “Jaky” P. Dacanay to Zeus Angel Racoma of Labo, Camarines Norte, on April 20, 2013; and for the grand reunion held the following day, the venue of which was transferred to Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City, from our residence as previously agreed by them. However, Ken was not with Clarisse since the end of a semester in the United States is September, while in the Philippines it is March or April depending on what month is the Holy Week.

Ken our son, muchas gracias for the deep thoughts and feelings you have for us. Your mom and I love you very much, too.
