This is in response to Ma. Ceres P. Doyo’s column titled “Sainthood for Archbishop Oscar Romero” (Inquirer, 5/2/13). I like what she stated in that column: The poor say they are not against reproduction and they are not against health.
May I clarify that allocating billions of state funds to provide the poor with artificial contraceptives will surely eradicate the poor but not poverty. Allocating the same money to education, health care and infrastructure development will certainly reduce poverty.
Besides, our Constitution clearly provides for the protection of life from conception. So even if the reproductive health bill was passed because legislators “jumped ship” for pragmatic reasons, was the angry majority right when it shouted 2,000 years ago: “Crucify Him”?
