Asuncion David Maramba served us a different kind of menu last April 7 (Opinion, “What do you think of Pope Francis?”). It was more palatable than the past “servings” on Pope Francis, and it opened my eyes to the fact that the papal trappings (like the elegant robes and red shoes), with the exception of the simple pastoral cross, were mimicked from the monarchies of Europe. All of which became the symbol of the Roman Catholic Church—yes, all, while giving no hint of the ministry to the poor.
What do I think of Pope Francis? Everything he has done, from the time he was chosen, has been different from what his predecessors did. But we are not here to compare but to answer a question. And my answer is: I think he should learn to speak English; that would endear him more to my heart.
Professor Maramba, thank you for the new “menu.” And you may call me Lola Nora.
