NGCP doesn’t own or operate Pulangui power plant
THIS IS regarding the news item “DZIQ: No brownouts in Mindanao this summer—NGCP.” (Inquirer.net, 4/26/11)
The article written by Danica Hermogenes stated in part that: “In a Radyo Inquirer report Tuesday, NGCP spokesperson Cynthia D. Perez-Alabanza was quoted as saying that they would be expanding the hydro-electric power transmission in Bukidnon to avoid power interruptions in the area.”
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) does not own or operate the Pulangui hydro-electric plant in Bukidnon or any other power generating plant in any part of the Philippines. Any development or expansion on hydro-electric and any other power generation facility is the sole responsibility of the owner and/or operator of such facility.
NGCP, a private corporation, is in charge of transmitting electricity from generators to distribution utilities and bulk power users. This task of the transmission service provider is done through NGCP’s nationwide network of towers, lines and substations. We reiterate that power plants are not part of NGCP’s network of facilities.
As the system operator of the power grid, NGCP also oversees the demand and supply of electricity to efficiently serve all of its customers, which include generators, private distribution utilities, electric cooperatives, government-owned utilities, ecozones, industries and directly connected companies.
We hope that this clarifies the matter. Please be assured that NGCP will continue to do its best as the transmission service provider and system operator.
