This has reference to Prof. Randy David’s “Who owns Sulu?” column (Inquirer, 2/24/13).
I am neither a Tausug nor a Muslim. Neither am I a scholar on the history of the Sultanate of Sulu.
Albeit an expatriate Filipino, for humanitarian reasons I am expressing my concern over news reports about the food blockade being enforced against the Tausug who are now in Sabah to assert their claim of ownership of that part of the island of Borneo. If the Malaysian government is sincere in its desire to settle the issue amicably, as reported, I suppose that calling off the food blockade will be a demonstration of goodwill and will be a good start for the settlement process.
Once antagonists share food on the same table, in all likelihood, the peaceful resolution of their conflict is in sight.
