MANING PELAEZ, as he was fondly called, could recount in amazing detail the efforts of Danding Cojuangco in getting the coco levy enacted by Ferdinand Marcos.
When Pelaez bitterly complained, on behalf of coconut farmers, that the coco levy oppressed poor families in the coconut sector, he almost got killed in an ambush near his home.
In the winter of his life, Pelaez was morally and metaphysically certain who ordered his assassination and that man was operating under the orders of Marcos.
Let Maning Pelaez truly find his peace.
“The evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones.”
