Losing hope in New Year: A final appeal for help

I am compelled by old age and lack of economic means to make a final appeal for government aid. I first approached the Arroyo administration in 2009, via a letter to the Public Attorney’s Office, to help me with my copyright infringement complaint against Microsoft-Yahoo, which was ignored.

By the time the Aquino administration took over in July 2010, my health had worsened: I needed a heart bypass and eye operation for glaucoma in both eyes. The government helped me get appointments for medical checkups, but the Parañaque City Hall group that handled the schedules fouled up for some reason. I have not heard from any of its members and I am slowly losing hope, and am in bedridden state. Even my suggestion of a cash advance so I could meet my own hospital/medicine needs has fallen on deaf ears. Is this how useless “public service” has become?

After more than two years since I first called for P-Noy’s help, I still remain neglected and unaided. In fact, I am now doubtful that this government cares about poor Filipinos.—ERNESTO KELLY MAGTOTO, Sucat, Parañaque City
