This is to clarify what came out in the Dec. 16 article by Jerome Aning, titled “Naia ceiling falls anew.”
We would like to correct the statement that “a portion of the ceiling inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (Naia) Terminal 2” fell on a female traveler Saturday morning. The “aluminum tile sheet” referred to by Aning in his story is part of the ceiling of a concessionaire’s booth in the pre-departure area of the said terminal. It fell while their employee was cleaning it, hitting a female passenger who was at that time buying from their store.
The passenger was initially seen by the MIAA Medical Division and was later brought to St. Luke’s Global City for further treatment. She suffered a one-and-a-half-inch cut on the back of her head. The concessionaire promised to assume all costs attendant to the medical treatment of the passenger as well as her rebooking costs.
We hope that this clarification will find equal space in your publication. We are afraid that Aning’s story may cause unnecessary fear among the air-traveling public.
