The overwhelming public support for the framework peace agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front is really heartwarming. Aside from a run organized by Muslim professionals, soldiers and other Christians recently gathered at Edsa to promote religious understanding. A peace rally was also held by Muslims in Manila to show their support for the agreement.
The historic signing of the framework agreement on Oct. 15, 2012 was attended by dignitaries and even a representative from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Different Muslim organizations also gave their support to the signing of the agreement. Youth and women’s organizations as well as civil society also gave their wholehearted support.
According to AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Jessie Dellosa, the earlier run was a symbolic activity where all religions came together and called for social unity and equality. Our Armed Forces has always been supporting activities that contribute to peace and nation-building.
What is happening is a milestone which has taken years to reach. And since time is of the essence, the signing of the framework for a peace agreement is a cause for celebration for both Muslims and Christians as they continue the long journey to attain peace and progress.
