SC should be united

And I thought President Aquino didn’t approve of wang-wangs or serenas. But he has appointed Maria Lourdes Sereno as chief justice.

Seriously, the President’s choice of Sereno (P-Noy’s first appointee to the Supreme Court) as chief justice may be likened to a father favoring his “biological child” over his “adopted children,” the other justices having been appointed by the previous president(s).

Accordingly, Chief Justice Sereno wants to bring back to the Supreme Court its “golden days” of dignified silence. I believe this should be the golden rule for all sensitive government institutions, except for the Office of the Presidential Spokesman, who must always observe “dignified talk” as it speaks for and in behalf of the President.

This bold statement coming from the new Chief Justice may as well be a good start: “By God’s sovereignty alone, the leadership mantle has been given to me, and I accept it in all humility, knowing that without the Lord God anointing my leadership, success is not possible.” Having said that, let us all hope that the young Chief Justice and the rest of her Supreme Court colleagues stay strong and united, lest they be called “The Young and the Restless.”

So, dear God, please make possible for Chief Justice Sereno’s leadership to succeed—even against all odds.
