What a joy and celebration for us women! That for the first time in the history of our country and our military a woman has been designated as judge advocate general (Inquirer, 7/31/12) is a great feat. This again means that women are now coequal with men, doing, learning and applying their skills and intelligence in almost all fields of endeavors that matter to our society.
Colonel Marian Aleido was also the first woman-lawyer commissioned into the service in 1984. Colonel Aleido must surely possess the good qualities of a soldier—leadership, integrity, determination and more. To handle such a position of authority and responsibility is not easy, but she has been given the position because she deserves it, and definitely her achievements and accomplishments played a big role in the decision of the military’s high command.
Women are not only mothers, they are mothers of all professions. It is a proud moment for us women indeed, knowing that this new appointment is a significant milestone for women in society. Colonel Aleido pledged that she will treat all cases with her conscience as a guide, and she will decide all of them for the interest of the service. Here we have a good soldier, a good lawyer.
