Manny Pacquiao, to me, is still the greatest boxer of his division. Add to that, the title “Great Filipino Hero”!
Aside from his discipline and his known kindness to the poor, we all know about his becoming a fervent Christian.
And in the last fight against Timothy Bradley, he showed true greatness. Despite knowing deep in his heart that he truly won the fight as confirmed by the boos from the spectators and the comments of respectable boxing observers, Manny accepted the boxing judges’ decision with dignity; he never lost his composure.
God put Manny to the test, and he was found not only “not wanting,” he came out with flying colors! That, to me, made him a great Filipino hero worth emulating!

Regarding the search for a chief justice, I have in mind the person that perfectly fits the position. He is one of the Inquirer columnists, and I think he would make an excellent chief justice. He is Fr. Joaquin G. Bernas, SJ—that is, if the Jesuits would let him go.
My reasons for preferring him?
- There is very little chance that he would turn into a womanizer or a corrupt person.
- He certainly has compassion for human beings. Otherwise he would never have become a dedicated priest.
- Having taught law, even serving as dean of the Ateneo law school, there is no doubt that he knows the law.
