Pacquiao shows ‘best’ Filipino dream attainable

/ 08:28 PM June 25, 2012

In the June 13 editorial of the Inquirer (“Larceny in Vegas”), mention was made of Manny Pacquiao as being no longer the ring craftsman of old, and that the sting of his defeat will always linger. I say, just like with any great athlete, time and age will catch up, and then comes the eventual decline. But I would like to think, and we can opt to think, that the sting of this defeat should not linger.

Let me suggest that what ought to linger in our memories is the string of victories this man has achieved. This man has taught the Filipino a very great lesson: that the Filipino can be good at his job and can be world-class, in fact No. 1.

Very often, we dwell on our defeats and failures and fail to look the other way. We can rise above our failures and do something great.

I dream of the day when the things we make and do in the Philippines will be considered as top-quality products, sought and appreciated by the whole world: clothes,  shoes, electronics, appliances, machines, cars, equipment, music, movies, food products, cosmetics, hotels, airports, schools and universities and so many other things!
