Jury system better, balanced

Asuncion David Maramba’s commentary, titled “Fariñas’ plain talk” (Inquirer, 6/4/12) is exactly what most everyone felt. Our intelligence was being insulted and we were being made to believe the unbelievable. If the impeachment trial were tried in a regular court, the legalese, devoid of common sense, would have prevailed and Renato Corona would have been acquitted.

There is a lot of merit in having a jury system, where bribing a judge is more difficult, and unbelievable, ridiculous lawyer language and legalese can be balanced by common sense and a shared sense of justice by the jury members representing a cross-section of the citizenry.
