Impeachment, to me, should be non-stop and should not have to follow the legislative calendar. Impeachment has nothing to do with lawmaking. Were that so, Congress would have been well advised to authorize the continuation of the proceedings during the summer respite.
But, the impeachment court is an independent body, which should have had a decision by now—up or down; the impeachment proceedings started long ago.
Impeached US President Bill Clinton had a verdict after five weeks. Not fair for Chief Justice Renato Corona to be twisting in the wind for months, subjected to the vicissitudes of “litigational” attrition. Not good for the country, either, given our many other concerns.
