Columnist Amando Doronila’s March 16 commentary, “Ugly questions,” takes a dim view of the recent revelations of Ana Basa and Sr. Flory Basa on the question of ownership of Basa-Guidote Enterprises Inc. (BGEI).
But the core issue here is really the fitness of Renato Corona to continue serving as Chief Justice. If Corona can connive with his wife Cristina to seize control of BGEI behind the backs of their relatives, that speaks volumes about the real character of the Chief Justice, and his inability to render fair and just decisions.
If Corona doesn’t think twice about putting a gun to the head of an 83-year-old caretaker of a BGEI property and threatening to blow the poor man’s brains out for a flimsy reason, then that says a lot, too about his moral depravity.
The BGEI issue is relevant and material to the determination of Corona’s fitness for the job. By testifying, Ana Basa and Sister Flory can smash to smithereens Corona’s feigned innocence and expose him for what he really is.
