I just want to express my admiration of some soldiers. Last month, Privates Danny Faigane and Marlon Vera found a bag containing P70,000 in cash following an earthquake in Negros Oriental. The young soldiers were part of the search and rescue operations helping victims of the quake. These soldiers will surely be given commendations for their good deed, which could lead to their promotion, as Undersecretary Benito Ramos of the Office of Civil Defense said.
Last March 8, another soldier from the Philippine Army, Cpl. Fernando Samperoy found a bag containing cash. He quickly returned the money to the owner, Fr. Leopoldo Cahilig, the parish priest of Isabela, Negros Occidental.
These soldiers have shown exceptional qualities. Being true to their calling, it never once occurred in their minds to touch the money. They are true soldiers who are heroes not only in the battlefield but everywhere else, in any place, at any time. And though they are very young in the service, they have exemplified not only kindness, honor and integrity but also the values and virtues of the true men in uniform.
