‘Friendly’ GMA: source grossly misinformed

/ 11:31 PM March 11, 2012

The reference to GMA Network as “friendly” to Chief Justice Renato Corona (“Corona counterattacks in GMA TV Network,” Inquirer, 3/8/12) is unfair. GMA has always maintained its objectivity and has never taken sides in its coverage of the impeachment trial.

Like any media outfit objectively covering the story, GMA Network asked Chief Justice Corona for an interview December last year when he was impeached. GMA persisted in that request in the weeks that followed in the interest of fairness. Last Wednesday, he finally agreed.

On the same day, Chief Justice Corona likewise granted interviews with other TV networks.

GMA is not privy to the factors he considered in choosing the media outfits to give interviews to or in the timing of the interview. Chief Justice Corona never said anything to us regarding the supposed “media hopping” mentioned in the Inquirer report.

FEATURED STORIES

The unnamed source who told the Inquirer reporter that GMA is “friendly” to the cause of the Chief Justice is grossly misinformed.
