Gatekeepers needed in times of crisis

/ 12:53 AM March 10, 2012

The column titled “Aquino’s ‘Doberman’ in the Supreme Court” (Inquirer, 3/1/12) is another good exposé from Rigoberto Tiglao. It points out the fact that there is bias in the impeachment trial and that the procedures have come up very scripted. The columnist is brave and loyal enough to his profession; he did what he is supposed to do as a responsible writer.

As a gatekeeper of society, he knows the limit of his pen. To be sure, he knows more about these facts, considering that he has been working in the industry for many years now. Though he keeps his columns brief, they have substance. Despite being criticized sometimes, he does not stop to pursue his job as a writer.

Truly, we need brave gatekeepers like Tiglao in these times of political crisis—one who will stand up for what is right and one who will show us what kind of government we have right now. Tiglao is definitely one of the best writers in town.
