I have been in the practice of law continuously for about four decades in our country. However, I never felt so embarrassed until I heard Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, one of the public prosecutors in the Senate impeachment trial, say that an anonymous source, allegedly a small lady, handed him an envelope containing documents on bank accounts of Chief Justice Reynato Corona.
This is clearly a fairy tale and has no place in any judicial forum, much less in the highly respected impeachment court of 23 elected senators trying no less than the highest judicial official.
Because of the questionable incident which was shown on television and viewed by millions of people, it is only logical to ignore this yarn.
I am confident that Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, the presiding judge of the impeachment court, will take all necessary legal steps so that this phony story may not be repeated.
