Rare but touching birthday message from GSIS

08:50 PM February 17, 2012

For the first time since I started receiving in the 1990s my monthly old-age pension from the Government Service Insurance System, I received on my 84th birthday last Jan. 20 a text message that read thus: “May you continue to be blessed with good health and happiness. Happy birthday from your GSIS family.”

I was deeply touched by this very meaningful greeting which I believe is an innovation introduced by GSIS’ new president and general manager, Robert Vergara. But I have no way of expressing my heartfelt thanks to him since the text message did not indicate the cell number. Or, shall I say it was a computer generated text message sent to all pensioners throughout the country? No matter how it was sent, it served the purpose for which it was intended.

I would like to say “Muchas gracias” to all GSIS employees for a job well done. May you also be blessed with long years of honest and faithful service to the, more or less, million pensioners in the country and abroad. This innovation should have been made by the previous GSIS management. And the same can be replicated by other pension agencies of the government.
