The upsides of Corona resigning

Chief Justice Renato Corona should consider resigning now for several reasons:

1. He has proved that he is willing to fight to the end to prove his innocence.

2. That having been said, he should think about the country.

a) Allow the Senate to attend to its legislative functions.

b) Save the country the expense of a prolonged impeachment trial.

c) Save his lawyers the possibility of charges of bribery.

3. From a personal standpoint:

a) The impeachment trial would result in further exposure of his personal and private affairs.

b) A conviction would result in all kinds of forfeitures and disgrace.

c) His resignation would be an act of statesmanship of the highest order and save all his benefits.
