Dream property acquired at dream price
AS A concerned citizen, I follow religiously the ongoing impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. The Jan. 30 trial, I must say, was an eye-opener for me. As part of the country’s labor force and coming from a hardworking family, I feel strongly about this impeachment trial. I feel abused by a public official, our Chief Justice no less, after hearing that he purchased several luxurious residences on an annual salary of only P60,000.
Most people with that salary can only dream of owning a condominium unit at The Bellagio, and I am disgusted that he accepted a 40-percent discount on his Bellagio purchase. Megaworld Corporation itself has admitted that this is not a normal marketing practice, even if the unit had “defects.” It makes me wonder why Megaworld gave him such a huge discount. For the sake of the country, I hope that this did not have anything to do with the lawsuits Megaworld may be facing these days or has faced in the past.
I am eagerly waiting for the outcome of this trial. I remain hopeful that Corona will be punished for betraying the trust and confidence of the Filipino people and for besmirching his position as chief justice. I cannot wait to see him stripped of his authority which is from an appointment dubious from the very beginning, even before it was accepted.
