Past is past, the future is at stake
For months on end, the Filipinos will be glued on their TV sets watching a battle of political titans in the Senate. It is said to be political in nature, no less for the reason that Chief Justice Renato Corona is a midnight appointee of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Granting that the Chief Justice loses and another person is appointed to replace him, what dangerous implication will that have on our justice system?
The fact is, there’s no looking back, as the past is past, and the future remains at stake. Just as Solomon weighed the scales, may the senator-judges consider to take a hard, long-range look at the future for the good of the country. Lest they forget to put first things first—because the growing number of the underprivileged can no longer bear being squeezed in between clashing titans.
