Book on Appleseed, where available

May I thank Ceres P. Doyo for her Dec. 29, 2011 column titled “The man who planted trees.”

It was rather ironic that the Inquirer front page referred to the trees in Cagayan de Oro as “killer trees” when in fact, it was the trees that were killed by illegal loggers. They still don’t get it, do they?

I also read Johnny Appleseed from a Junior Classic Illustrated comic book given by my grandmother. Doyo’s column brought back pleasant childhood memories. How sad that the story has been obscured by other fairy tales. Perhaps, this is one story that should be required reading in grade school.

I wish I knew where I could get a copy of Johnny Appleseed—comics or book form. I’d like my baby grandson to read it when he is able.

I now have a hard-bound copy of the “Johnny Appleseed” picture story book published by Walt Disney, which I bought at National Bookstore years ago. For those asking: “The Man Who Planted Trees” by Jean Giono should be available at Amazon. It’s also on YouTube.
