Selecting SC members

/ 01:42 AM December 29, 2011

I don’t understand why some people are connecting the whole Judiciary to the legal proceedings of the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona as if the impeachment were an affront to the Judiciary.  In fact it’s the other way around. It is refreshing to know that our politicians and government officials are awakening from their indifference and now see the injustices, biases, arrogance and corruption of magistrates, especially those of Corona and the other appointed justices and judges of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The sight of Corona’s hakot supporters staging rallies in front of government offices to protest the impeachment was entertaining.  Why aren’t they protesting against the many bad bananas in their own backyards—the corrupt judges, lawyers, fixers, bar members, etc.  Many of us in the same offices were just laughing at those in the rally because we know that the impeachment of Corona is a step in the right direction, a step our nation needs in order to progress.

Our politicians are right in making this move.  But why don’t they include the other remaining Arroyo appointees and then afterwards let the new Supreme Court chief justice and associate justices be voted by the people through referendum, so that we can be assured of impartial decisions by our courts. President Aquino should have no hand in appointing them.
