‘Chilling’ analysis

Amando Doronila’s November 21 article sent “chills down my spine” as it was rubbish, exaggerated and bad analysis. “[F]iling of the case was rushed”? Doesn’t Doronila think that this administration should rush the prosecution of suspected plunderers? The right term is not “public lynching” but “public relief” that justice is under way for the Filipino people, and a strong message has been sent out that cheaters in government will be dealt with with the full force of the law.  This government should be “obsessed with transparency and accountability” to make democracy work in this country.

I normally hold in high esteem Doronila’s thoughts and analyses, but lately it is a bit “operatic.” The “Mafiosi’s final solution” is high-strung and has no place in this case.

Doronila wrote that “many Filipinos are full of fear”—I think not because of the government’s “Mafiosi’s final solution”—but the fear is about the future of the coming generations who have been robbed of opportunities because of poor governance and the utter lack of moral authority and creativity in problem-solving. Stakeholders such as the media have a critical role in influencing the public agenda, perception and policies, but they too are victims of the lack of content in political debate.
