Most Holy Trinity
OVERHEARD: When she cancels a date, it is because she has to; when he cancels a date, it is because he has two!?

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The love between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is whole, faithful, and true, and They love us through and through. May we all learn to be more loving and more faithful, too.

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 28:16-20), we hear the Lord tell us: “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” We are assured of God’s true and lasting love. Yes, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit love us always, and in all ways.

Article continues after this advertisementGod is a faithful God, and we are His unfaithful, and often, “faithless” children. If only we listened to Him more, and less to ourselves! We have a mandate to make Him known to all nations, and all too often, we end up just making ourselves known. Let us ask ourselves today: What have I done to spread God’s love and presence? Is my life all just about I, me, and myself? Am I living a life with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as my Master, Lord, and Guide?

There is a story about an elderly man who told his wife, on their wedding anniversary: “My dear wife, my love for you has been tried and true!” The wife, who was hard of hearing, looked at him and said: “Yes, I’m tired of you, too!” God does not get tired of us, and He does not give up on us. Like the Trinity, may we, too, not give up on ourselves and each other.

What is the message of the Most Holy Trinity? It is that we are loved so much and that we are loved unconditionally, all the way. What more do we need to say? The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit love us more than we realize and know. May we trust more in the Trinitarian love and mercy.

“Don’t mind the swaying of the branches as long as the trunk is firm” (Unknown). Let us not be overly alarmed by our weaknesses and failures to the point that we give up. On the contrary, let us always focus on God’s love, and not so much on our “performance.” Discouragement is from the evil one. Our trust and confidence come from God.

SPAM. Lately, I have realized that we often focus on SPAM (Silly, Petty, Adjustable Matters). Let us learn to choose our battles, and not to be focused or caught up on the nonessentials, to the point that we forget the essentials. Let us delete, and dispose of SPAM matters that make our lives miserable, unproductive, and draining. Focus on the Lord, not on the load! Treat as SPAM all negative people and negative situations. Let them not affect you and make you lose focus on your many blessings.

GEM. Let us focus more and value GEM (God Encounter Matters) in our journey. Let us treasure and nurture such matters, like spirituality, friendships, growth, faithfulness, kindness, and humility. “Matters of the heart.” Hold on to your GEMs and dispose of your SPAMs in life.

Think about this: When we finally come before the Most Holy Trinity, the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, what will we say? And what will They say to you and to me? Don’t forget, you and I have a date with the Trinity, someday. “O most Holy Trinity, undivided unity, Holy God, mighty God, God immortal, be adored!”

A moment with the Lord.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, help us not to forget the life you want us to live. Amen.
