A thought about women’s struggles

/ 05:02 AM March 13, 2024

This is regarding Anna Cristina Tuazon’s idea in her column (“Women’s struggles go beyond stilettos,” Safe Space, 3/7/24).

I fully agree with her concluding statement: “Celebrating women should go beyond trying on their stilettos. Listening to their experiences and making space for their voices to be heard and their needs to be addressed can go much further.”

Indeed, the point is bolstered by the fact that women face numerous struggles that run deeper than the stilettos they wear. Many women out there are actually grappling with various forms of oppression, domestic violence, sexual assault, and the like.

Thus, it is imperative to listen to and address these struggles head-on so that women can have their voices truly heard and their needs considered. Doing this can create real progress in empowering women, alongside promoting their rights, especially this month.
