DSWD’s slow service for ordinary centenarians

DSWD’s slow service for ordinary centenarians

I watched and read with great dismay the wide publicity surrounding Juan Ponce Enrile’s celebration of his 100th birthday.

While he deserves to celebrate like any of those few Filipinos who have been blessed by God to reach this most important milestone in their life, the super swift action of the Department of Social Welfare and Development to deliver the centennial award on the very day of his birthday is revolting.

My mother, Cristina M. Carolino, who even spent the best 40 years of her life teaching in a public school, celebrated her 100th birthday almost seven months ago last July 30, 2023, but has yet to receive her award.
