Respect the roads

/ 05:01 AM October 12, 2023

Who would not be seething mad if you see that fairly newly built roads gutted by Manila Water and Maynilad for pipe repairs are not properly restored? This is not only a waste of taxpayer money, but it also wastes the time of the commuting public due to the inconvenience and traffic jams that they cause.

May we call on Maynilad and Manila Water to restore all the taxpayer-funded roads to their original condition prior to the diggings? Collectively, both concessionaires reaped over P9 billion in net profits for the first half of 2023. A tiny fraction of that amount would be more than sufficient to fund the restoration of these ravished roads.

Additionally, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) should do a better job of ensuring that the road restoration efforts of Maynilad and Manila Water meet the standards.

Lastly, is it possible for the DPWH, local government units, and Maynilad or Manila Water to coordinate among themselves the timing of road and pipe repairs?
