Proposed luxury tax not fair

Dear Mr. Palabrica,Thank you for your piece (“Louis Vuitton tax,” Business, 1/24/23). But if I may say so, I think it’s an unfair tax to impose based solely on the premise that only the uber-rich can buy say cars above P5 million. It’s discriminatory for mid-income car enthusiasts; for example, who can always save up or trade up their Fortuners to finally buy their dream Land Cruiser?Or, should they just listen to the government saying, “Just stick to your league boy. Or pay up!”Jewelry and precious stones can compensate for taxes as their values appreciate in time. Cars cannot.
