In March 2020, the government enforced lockdowns due to COVID-19. The first question I asked myself was how do I get more involved with God? If we are disciples who proclaim the gospel in our communities, what should we do when we are locked in our houses? It was a question that inspired me to be creative in serving the church and community.
The pandemic has caused a drastic change in our lives. It disrupted economies and education systems and left many jobless. But the pandemic helped me have a strong faith in God. He answered my prayers; I’m here in Ateneo, my dream school, and studying tourism, my dream course. I was still sad though because I couldn’t see my classmates, friends, and teachers through the lockdowns.
But no matter what happens, it is important for every Filipino to read the Bible, whether on the mobile phone or the book itself. Having faith in the midst of this pandemic was very important to me, not only for my mental health but also for my sanity. It got me through the toughest of times and kept me centered and grounded.
There are many lessons to gain from the discipleship subject such as learning how to pray, building relationships, mentoring, and helping others. Teaching from God’s words and how the Bible can be applied in our lives is one of the best ways to build deeper and more meaningful relationships.
