The postponement of the barangay elections is a disservice to the electorate’s right to choose their officials. The “palusot” is to save money and allot the budget for COVID-19 response. If that is the case, why spend P100 million for the renovation of the plenary hall of the Batasang Pambansa in time for the State of the Nation Address?
The barangay elections are long overdue. The exercise has been postponed thrice and should already push through in order to give the people a chance to have a fresh start.
To quote Oliver Cromwell to the Long Parliament: ”You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go.”
Now is the time to replace holdover barangay officials. Now is the moment to exercise our right and let the democratic process run its course.
