Where are the meaningful bills from Congress?

/ 04:01 AM November 08, 2021

This is a rejoinder to Fr. Cecilio Magsino’s letter regarding renaming of streets, which appeared in PDI’s issue of Sept. 24, 2021. He said Congress has more important things to do than changing street names.

It’s a shame indeed that despite the many problems inherent in a Third World country like ours, our Congress has failed to enact meaningful bills for the common good. We are now way behind our Asian neighbors, while before we were ahead. Our government has failed us miserably in this regard.

Here’s an open secret that happened in my province years ago. Our congressman who was nearing the end of his term had not produced or sponsored any bills yet; his score was zero. To save face, he hastily filed a bill changing the name of our provincial high school to Marcelo H. del Pilar High School. The bill passed.

Make no mistake about it: We Bulakeños love our heroes and are proud of them, but we prefer to be known as graduates of Bulacan High rather than alumni of MHPHS.
