Open letter to F. Sionil Jose

/ 04:02 AM October 19, 2021

Dear Mr. F. Sionil Jose:

Having read your commentary on the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize of Maria Ressa, I need to ask: How would you feel if you were her? I would like to believe that we Filipinos do our work to accomplish a goal and to make a difference.

We work for a higher purpose, and Ms. Ressa has fought for truth, justice, and peace, and has ably presented them. The Nobel Committee has spoken. The Peace Prize has been given.

So let us celebrate life and the liberty we continue to fight for as a nation, and give Maria Ressa what is rightfully hers. One would hope, from a literary great and gentleman such as you, a little more graciousness and a little more gallantry even in expressing your contrary view. After all, to whom much has been given, much is asked of.
