Dear Congressmen: A country as poor as ours cannot afford to legalize divorce because it will drive women to the poorhouse.
Men will divorce their wives at the littlest pretext and, more often, the children stay with their mother.
The man will support his children from the first marriage, but in no time, he will take a new wife. And when money gets tight, he will stop sending money to the children of the previous marriage.
The divorced wife will go to court for support, so the ex-husband will send money. But after some time, he cannot continue giving support to his older children because his second family is growing in number and he cannot afford two families.
The first wife gets tired of going and going again to court for support of the children. She herself could remarry and exposes her daughters to a new husband who might not be a wholesome stepfather to young girls. What a mess.
Battered wives have recourse to legal separation. Then the couple can have counseling and therapy if there is hope for the family to reunite.
The real agenda of divorce, we all know, is remarriage.
Annulment of marriage due to psychological incapacity bars the incapacitated spouse from remarriage. So they want divorce.
Please let us be strict on pornography and immorality, so our families remain healthy and strong. You, Congressmen, wish your children’s marriages to be intact. Why espouse divorce?
