Ang isda ay sa sariling bibig nahuhuli. The editorial titled “The coming reckoning” (6/19/21) pointed out correctly what amounts to a confession of guilt by President Duterte about the thousands of victims “extrajudicially” killed upon his instructions in his war on drugs: “My only sin is EJK.” And like his boss, the motormouth Harry Roque admitted that thousands of those killed were just “collateral damage.”
Roque has bragged that without the cooperation of Mr. Duterte, the International Criminal Court investigator would have nothing but “hearsay” evidence (e.g., newspaper reports) that are inadmissible in any court of law. Sure, no one can make Mr. Duterte and Roque testify, but these two lawyers conveniently forget that the reporters who heard them shoot their mouths off can testify. Malacañang has never denied the reports about those reckless utterances, which any defense lawyer would say were needlessly stupid.
Roque, the former “human rights lawyer,” has been covering up every crime his boss has committed. Shouldn’t he be investigated, too, as an accomplice?
