Electioneering ploy
The recent Davao survey of presidentiables seems like a not-so-subtle electioneering ploy, subtlety not being a quality one associates with the present political movers. The results offer the stuff of nightmares to those hoping for a more democratic and competent leadership. Perhaps the wisdom of Thomas Hardy can give a positive perspective: “If way to the better there be, it exacts a full look at the worst.”
Meanwhile, present realities demand convincing intervention: The killings of civilians by government agencies must be stopped, for “…the enemies of freedom do not argue; they shout and they shoot” (William Inge).
