Transposing some of Richard Heydarian’s ending words in “Duterte: The question of succession” (Opinion, 7/28/20), I could somehow reframe his final point to this effect: “The coming months state that decisive crisis-management capital is under public scrutiny that will factor in Mr. Duterte’s withering political shape post-2022.”
Not to sound too supercilious, but could the supermajority of Filipinos just quit messing around and stop putting narcissistic, knuckle-brained weaklings in the highest seat of the land? Both usually turn out privately motivated despite the “public service” tag that goes with the position.
