‘Mosquitoes’ feeding on nation’s blood

This is in connection with the news, “DSWD detects over 81,000 duplicate cash aid beneficiaries, 52,000 ineligible recipients” (Inquirer.net, 7/17/2020).

This news seems to confirm what we have been hearing from so many people on the ground and what is being reported in the media.

We are shocked by the brazenness with which these “mosquitoes” are taking advantage of the pandemic that has caused immeasurable pain to those affected by the virus, due to the illness of thousands and the loss of life of hundreds more in our own country alone, not to mention the millions infected and hundreds of thousands dead worldwide.

We find it hard to believe that the current occupant in Malacañang who has sworn to eradicate corruption in government by dismissing or firing anyone who would be charged with even just a whiff of corrupt allegation would allow this evil to prevail.

Then we remember his firing of those officials he appointed to office where humongous anomalies happened during their watch, only to be reappointed to other jobs in his administration.

We can safely assume that the people involved in those anomalous 81,000 duplications and the more than 52,000 ineligible recipients are his people, who pride themselves as employees of the Duterte administration.

And while he cozily sleeps under the mosquito net, the “mosquitoes” are busy quenching their thirst on the blood of the people, from Cala-

barzon to Mindanao and possibly in many other parts of the country. The social amelioration program which was conceived to aid the millions of the poor in the midst of the pandemic has practically become the spring from which the vultures suck their nourishment.

God bless the poor people of this benighted land!
