Game of chess: Who’s the Queen?

Segundo Eclar Romero’s political analysis of current events is provoking the lethargic mind to think (“Sibling rivalry,” 7/20/20). Citing chess pieces is an apt analogy in today’s COVID-19-dominated world.

I have main and corollary questions.

If the Knights (blue uniformed men), have the ability to jump, and the Pawns (congressmen), could be promoted to any rank upon reaching the far end of the chessboard, my query is: Who is the Queen that possesses the ability to move in any direction — horizontal, vertical, and diagonal?

Mr. Romero need not identify it. My main, question, however, is: Could the Knights and Pawns be able to protect the King from being checkmated by an opposing chess player?

I shall patiently wait for and watch the next respective moves of the antagonistic chess players.
