Motive: To erase Ninoy’s memory

/ 04:01 AM July 07, 2020

Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte wants to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) to Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas. In the guise of making the name Filipino and removing the airport’s “bad image,” Duterte’s real motive is to erase from the memory of the younger generation the dastardly act committed by the Marcos family against the biggest threat to their power: Ninoy Aquino.

Naming an international airport after a person such as the late senator is not unique. The John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, Ben Gurion, and King Khalid international airports are just some examples.

The Marcoses and the Dutertes — anti-democratic families trying to make it appear like they want to dismantle the system — should stop fooling the people.
