The recent boxing encounter between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Victor Ortiz proved one thing—that the former is a ruthless and cunning fighter. Mayweather showed his “capacity” to look for an unguarded moment of his opponent, and next thing everyone knew, his opponent was out. I will not go into the details, nor will I question what Mayweather did to Ortiz.
This is just a request being made to one of the greatest international boxers. Rep. Manny Pacquiao, it will not make you less of a man if you so decide never to fight Mayweather. It will not even be a cowardly retreat.
In the many fights that Pacquiao won, he has proven who he is. To every Filipino, he will always be an inspiration. He has shown by example how it is to work hard, to sacrifice, to concentrate, to fight cleanly, and to keep on trying; most important of all, he has taught us to continue dreaming. He is every Filipino’s source of hope. He doesn’t need to fight Mayweather.
He is already a boxing icon, and he doesn’t need to prove anything anymore. It is unnecessary therefore to allow a gentleman like him to be tainted by Mayweather’s kind of “fight.”
Erik Morales is right when he said in a commercial where he and Pacquiao appeared together, “Wala kang katulad, Manny!”
