In today’s Gospel (Jn. 3:16-18), we read the most important line in the Bible: “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” God loves us, and He loves all of us equally. There are no greater “gods” among us. The life of each one of us matters. We are all in—in the heart of God.

Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Three in one, and one in three! The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are different, but they are one, consubstantial, and equal to each other. A mystery. But more than an intellectual mystery to be solved, it is a mystery to be lived, and to be grateful for.

The God of Christianity is unique. Other gods are known as a presence, a force, a way, or as an enlightenment, but our God reveals Himself as a God who loves us, and the very world we are living in. What’s more is that He is one God in three persons, so full of love for each other, overflowing unto us, and making us a part of His trinitarian life and love. Hey, we’re in. We’re all in!

The Trinitarian love is our model for true love. The first lesson in humility. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are full of respect, dialogue, cooperation, and collaboration. A “groupie,” not a “selfie,” this Holy Trinity!

For those who take pride in being intelligent and bright, take note that God who is supreme intelligence, chose to call us to His sacred heart, not to His sacred brain. We are all called to love, more than to be smart.

The heart of the Trinity is love. God sent His only begotten Son because he loved the world, and not because He wanted to control the world, or manage the world, or to gain something from the world. We who claim to serve and love, we still have so much to learn about selfless love and purity of motives.

Are you more of a head person, or a heart person? All too often, we deny or belittle the heart, and matters of the heart. What we need more than ever in our world is love. Congratulations to parents and guardians for raising your children to be bright, smart, and hardworking, but more so, if you raise them to be humble to God, generous, and kind to other people.

Seeing the video of George Floyd slowly dying, pleading for air is something that turned our stomachs, shocked our minds, and gripped our hearts. It brought tears to the eyes of many of us. Please don’t forget that God loves us, and He wants us to love each other!

With so many present-day issues, opinions, and views, let us be guided by St. Augustine’s words of wisdom: “Unity in essentials; respect in doubtful matters; but love in all things.”

A good and timely reminder: “It is often better to give a piece of your heart than to give a piece of your mind.”

It has been 86 days since the March 15 lockdown and quarantine. So many things have changed, and so many reflections and lessons as well. As it were, according to my confrere, Fr. Noel Rebancos, the Lord removed work from our hands so that we could focus more on the love in our hearts, and build better relationships and prayer life. Amen!

June 12 is our independence. May the Blessed Mother continue to bless, guide, and protect our beloved country, our leaders, and our people.
