All in the name of ‘utang na loob’

The editorial “Heroes in agony” (5/27/20) did not name Mocha Uson, but it obviously referred to her in one whole paragraph as supposedly one of the “best and brightest” the Duterte administration can offer the people to do public service as deputy administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, receiving a “hefty” monthly salary in six figures!

In reality, this woman has absolutely no special talent worthy of any mention other than being once a vulgar “guru” of sex and sleaze who had no qualms demonstrating on national TV all the lewd moves to attain sexual gratification.

It was porn, pure and simple. And true to form, the “pepedede” video where she tried to suck up to Mr. Duterte who was then pressing so hard for federalism was classic trash.

Being the cynosure of the Duterte inner circle’s eyes, she has never been without lucrative sinecures (MTRCB, PCOO, and now OWWA) ever since Mr. Duterte began his term as president. Heck, this woman is loaded—always awash with cash, courtesy of the taxpayers.

Unable to do anything about her obscene and obnoxious presence in government, the public would have soon wanted to totally forget about her (never mind the egregious waste of taxpayer money), except that she keeps inserting herself in any conversation of national interest as if there is anything going on between her ears.

Like it or not, Uson stands out as the monumental proof that Mr. Duterte never gives a hoot about the public perception that what he has virtually inflicted upon this country is a kakistocracy driven largely by his visceral urge to pay his 2016 “utang na loob,” not out of his own pocket, but with the people’s money.
