Dear government workers,
I am proud of you — that you continue to work and risk yourself so that COVID cases can be managed, that you silently endure the taunting of many because they say that you are not doing your job.
I am proud of you, because what others fail to see is that while you are doing all of these things, you are also a father and mother to your children whom you have to cook for every day; you are also a son and daughter to your ailing and aging parents who deserve care; you are also a playmate to the growing kids in your home because their friends cannot be there; you are also the “chosen one” who has to go to the market to buy food and other necessities; and you are also human who gets hurt and tired and broken.
Yes, I am proud of you, because in the midst of these complexities, you still choose to get up today and repeat the same things you’ve been doing for weeks now. You fight on even if success is not ensured. You do what can and should be done, because you know it is for a cause greater than yourself. But in reality, it is those little acts of yours that constitute the great whole.
I am proud of you. And I know, I am not the only one.
